creme de la creme
Warton Esherick, a famed woodworker, designed some amazing stools that I'm trying to copy...
And George Nakashima:
The Japanese had a way of celebrating knots and other so called defects that would cause most to look for a new piece.

spotlight: Randy Taplin
Had the opportunity to tour through the house of Randy Taplin, a Warren based woodworker, who lives on prickly mountain (see previous post). He has an amazing workshop and an amazing home he built himself.
Water stones - set up to quickly get a micro bevel.
His wife, Nancy Taplin, is an amazing painter and has a studio on the first floor of the house.
Nancy worked for Bread and Puppet years ago - a couple of her prints below.

prickly mountain
Drove up to Prickly Mountain, above Warren, VT to take pictures of various homes tonight. The area was put on the 'roots of the design-build movement' map when a couple of Princeton architecture graduates in the 1960's got fed up with 'design' school and started building on land they had purchased, designing oddly shaped structures, all the while attracting other architects who would go on to add to the mix that made Prickly Mtn what it is today...a bunch of unique creations, some of which are still standing.
